What are Silica Gel DRY Packs and how do they work?

Eco-Sorb has a glass-like, porous structure of silicon dioxide (SiO2). It adsorbs up to 30% of its own weight. And if you read it correctly, that’s adsorb and not absorb.

Eco-Sorb DRY Packs QTY4x 100g packs

Also Available EcoSorb QTY10x 25g Packs

Silica Gel adsorbs moisture with the water molecules adhering to the surface of the Silica Gel granule. Silica Gel is covered in millions of pores that retain this moisture. Pore opening size ranges a magnitude up and down from a billionth of a metre (nanometre). The pores create a huge surface area, which will bind water through surface adsorption and capillary action.
Silica Gel comes packaged in Tyvek bags which are made from high density polyethylene fibers, making them extremely tear-resistant. In addition, Tyvek is lightweight, flexible, smooth, low-linting, and is resistant to water, chemical abrasion, and ageing. The Eco-Sorb Silica Gel range is food grade.

How to use E-Sorb re-usable Dry packs

Simply place them in amongst your draws or storage boxes. Then regularly dehydrate them.

How to dehydrate Eco-Sorb Dry packs

  • Remove them from the storage location and place on a baking tray.
  • Give each one some space so that the air can get around them.
  • Pre-heat your oven to 120° C for 10 minutes then set for 100°C
  • Place the tray with packs in a central rack and leave for about 1/2 hour
  • Set aside to cool in a dry place.
  • Replace them in your storage spaces.

**NOTE If you have a food dehydrator for herbs and food products you can use this just as effectively following the operating instructions for your device.

Frequency of this dehydrating practice will depend on how damp you think your storage spaces or draws are.

You must use your own initiative.

If you are not sure whether they are still working we suggest dehydrating about every 3 months or so.
